133: Sago at Gulaman

Oh man, the rainy season is coming. Can you feel the dark gloom in the picture? So many summer recipes, so little time to make them. Sigh, moving on.
Sago at gulaman is a popular drink in the Philippines. It was, unfortunately, not very popular in my household growing up as my mother disapproved of the ingredients used to make them: sago (tapioca pearls), gelatin and are you ready for this, sugar syrup. Nope, not a popular choice for my health nut mother.

But nevertheless, I grew up loving this sweet drink. It was painful to see vendors in , literally, every street corner selling this and knowing I can’t have it. My mother’s more lenient now in our choice of beverages, thank god. When I served this to her, she actually said, “Hmm, this tastes good.”
