117: Mushroom Stroganoff

I wished that my mother cooked. I’m a sucker for traditions and I always feel a little pang of jealousy whenever I read or hear about mothers passing on their secret recipes to their daughters. I can count in one hand all the dishes my mother cooked for me when I was younger - Pineapple Fried Rice, Pumpkin Soup, Japanese Beef Rice and Beef Stroganoff - none of which she can pass on to me because she never followed or kept recipes. My mother had one method of cooking: trial and error.
I think my mother used Campbell’s Cream of Mushroom on her Beef Stroganoff. I can’t be sure. The one thing I was sure of was that it tasted good. That’s why I’ve always had a fondness for beef stroganoff even if she stopped making it a long time ago and restaurants rarely have it on the menu. (It’s a 90’s dish, no? I always associate it with the early 90’s, I don’t know why.)
